Garden Care and Horticulture Her passion for horticulture began at an early age. She helped her dad with the family vegetable garden and grew flowers in the gardens around the house all of her youth. Having a B. S. in Biology, she has worked in public gardens and nurseries. Her experience with a variety of plant materials and varying conditions is extensive. Special spaces come into play with the development of micro-climates for the plant material, created by using manmade elements and the plants themselves, for example, the use of big trees to protect small plants or to create a space with their own canopies. The wonderful opportunity in the Southwest to grow such a wide variety of plant material is enhanced by the architectural elements that can be used to create special spaces. Creating Special Spaces Ms. Cure specializes in creating spaces for people, as well as for plants. The environment we create to enjoy in our everyday lives has a huge impact on how we feel. To have special spaces, gardens and landscapes allows us to enjoy the natural world and our surroundings. Having experience with both small and large projects, she has a good understanding of the realm of possibilities, as well as what it takes to accomplish the goals. Sustainable Habitat's The practice of sustainable habitats has been used for thousands of years. Early in my career, the concept was something I wanted to study and then put into practice. In October 1995, as a member of the People to People Delegation, I was asked to present concepts in Land Use and Planning Design at the Universities of Beijing. The paper was based on the sustainable habitat and garden in Milford, Massachusetts, and included landscape design and plant use. The Delegation's purpose was to make improvements to and maintain public parks throughout Beijing. This group included horticulturists, arborists, and landscape architects. The gardens I designed and cultivate at Eden West demonstrate the development of habitats on a small scale, but the concepts can be applied to much larger environments. To create and maintain your own piece of nature for your pleasure, as well as edible gardens for the kitchen, is our forte. I believe sustainable habitats improve our lives to a great extent, especially when we begin to appreciate nature within our private spaces. Original Garden Sculptures Ms. Cure has followed her passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces for as long as she can remember. Growing up, she and her brother would create intimate and artfully intricate houses in the trees using both plants and their manmade surroundings. Architecture and water elements enhanced our visions. Since then, those early impulses have been confirmed in the art of special spaces. She designs her own line of manmade forms for the outdoor paradise. Her original collection of uniquely designed sculptures, planters and fountains, called La Macetas, uses ancient forms and modern materials. The style complements not only the architecture, but also the plant materials of the Southwest. Water heaters have become one of her favorite mediums for creating fountains, containers and trellis work. She has only tapped some of the possibilities for recycled water tanks and recently won the Most Creative Booth award at the Home & Garden Show at the Phoenix Civic Plaza in August 2006. The booth elements were composed with repurposed hot water heaters.
